Forestiere Underground Gardens

The Forestiere Underground Gardens, situated at 5021 West Shaw Avenue in Fresno, California, are a progression of underground structures worked by Baldasare Forestiere, a worker from Sicily, over a time of 40 years from 1906 to his demise in 1946. The gardens are worked by individuals from the Forestiere family through the Forestiere Historical Center, and can be viewed as a breathtaking and capricious case of vernacular design.

The impetus for the development of the underground habitation an aftereffect of the blistering summers run of the mill of the Fresno zone. The motivation fits antiquated Roman sepulchers that Baldasare was charmed by in his childhood.
